Gartner’s latest study has identified 10 strategic technology trends that are set to profoundly transform the way we work in 2025. In particular, these trends aim to meet the challenges posed by the latest forms of artificial intelligence (AI), advances in computing, and human-machine interaction.

CIOs will need to anticipate these tech trends in order to build a solid IT strategy for the coming year. So here’s the billion-dollar question: which investments should you prioritize this year? What impact might they have on your organization? And how can you prepare your teams for such changes?

1. AI Agents

By 2028, at least 15% of everyday business decisions will be made autonomously using AI agents (compared with close to 0% in 2024).

2. AI Governance Platforms

By 2028, 50% of companies will be using security services or solutions to protect themselves against misinformation (compared with just 5% today). So, get ready to follow this technological trend closely in 2025!

4. Post-Quantum Cryptography

Let’s talk about the technology trends that will redefine the frontiers of computing in 2025. These include post-quantum cryptography: a data encryption technique that protects users against unwanted attacks from quantum computers.

What sets quantum computers apart is their ability to solve complex problems much faster than conventional computers. Today, few companies have the equipment or knowledge to use them. But cybercriminals are already beginning to rely on these technologies.

These trends include spatial computing, which enables users to interact with virtual objects in a physical environment. That’s what augmented reality technologies are based on, as these interactions make the user experience more immersive and intuitive. Apple and Meta are already capitalizing on this trend with their Vision Pro and Meta Quest VR headsets. Meta also recently unveiled the first prototype of augmented reality glasses, called Orion.

Demand should clearly follow suit, as the space computing market is expected to grow from $110 billion in 2023 to $1,700 billion by 2033!

By 2030, Gartner estimates that eight in ten workers will rely on intelligent robots on a daily basis, compared with less than one in ten today.

• And in the field: inspecting equipment, carrying out routine maintenance, and detecting and repairing breakdowns

10. Neurological Enhancement

By 2030, 60% of IT professionals will be using technologies such as bidirectional brain-machine interfaces (BBMIs), financed by both themselves and their employers.
